This is the season of charity organizations asking for your money and the challenges of directing your dollars wisely and well. Here are ways to be more involved, impactful, and satisfied with your charitable gift giving:
IF YOU ARE 70 1/2 OR OLDER, with wealth, consider making gifts from your IRA. These gifts do not increase your income and will reduce your RMD amount (this directs your tax dollar directly to the community nonprofit of your choice).
For the rest of us, start a modest budget for a particular nonprofit and give regularly or start a giving circle with friends and colleagues to pool small gifts into larger ones.
If you own or operate a small business, creating paid volunteer time off, team service days, and internal campaigns (tip jars, employee giving programs) lift company morale and supports local charities. Studies have shown that these kinds of policies attract and keep employees (especially in tight job markets).
This gift giving small business story is inspirational and will stay with KARA for many years to come.
If you manage or own a small business, consider that Rodney and Thusuong Hiel’s Boba Tonka Tea donate all of their tips and add company contributions to support child wellbeing efforts by local nonprofits. This small business has a fire in its belly to support their community every day they are open for business.
Dozens of Minnetonka nonprofits have received their generous checks (including KARA) and dozens more will in the years to come.
Think of the impact this mindset would have if 10% of America’s 36.2 million small businesses were to commit to this giving strategy for the communities they serve ($148,800,000,000.00 would be gifted over five years)
Thank you, Minnetonka Boba Tea, Auction Masters, Highland Banks, local Rotaries, and other community supporting people and businesses that have provided Kids At Risk Action the funding to do our work over the last 25 years.
MINNETONKA, Minn. — Boba Tonka Bubble Tea is a family-owned business in Minnetonka with a mission to uplift its community. It opened during the pandemic out of one couple’s love for tea and each other. If you live near Boba Tonka Bubble Tea, stop by for a hot one and leave a nice tip.
