KARA’s First
Pop-Up Think Tank
A small, facilitated working session bringing together
people who know KARA’s work and can help shape the
organization’s next chapter.
KARA is at a turning point.
After more than 25 years of advocacy, research
and public education, Kids At Risk Action is
building the infrastructure needed to expand its work.
KidsAtRiskAction.com is live as a front door
for people seeking to understand the realities
facing at-risk children and families inside
the child-protection system.
KARA’s Resource Navigator, university relationships,
research, advocacy and public education are creating
an expanding platform for impact.
The next chapter calls for paid leadership and
program staff, cohesive systems and succession
planning to sustain and grow this work.
$144,000
Estimated in-kind labor in one recent quarter
Students and volunteers contributed an estimated
$144,000 in in-kind labor, demonstrating what
KARA’s network can accomplish and why sustainable
organizational capacity matters.
How do we build sustainable patronage?
How does KARA find and keep the patrons and
donor-advised funds that will carry it from
volunteer-powered impact to a sustainable national
platform—including universities, CASA programs,
foundations and major donors—without losing the
voice that made the work matter?
A focused session with clear next steps.
The Pop-Up Think Tank brings the experience and
wisdom in the room into a facilitated conversation,
with insights documented for continued action.
Set the Context
KARA’s leadership frames the challenge, where
the organization stands today and what is
at stake in its next chapter.
Engage the Room
A trained facilitator guides a focused working
session to surface experience, connections,
opportunities and blind spots.
Create the Ideabook
Key insights, offers of help and next steps
are documented in an Ideabook that becomes
the foundation for continued action.
No gift will be requested during the session.
This gathering is a facilitated working session.
It is not a fundraiser or a consulting engagement.
We are asking participants for
wisdom, counsel, connections and clear next steps.
From conversation to a 12–24 month plan.
The session’s Ideabook will serve as the first
draft of a longer-term patronage and
organizational capacity strategy.
