There is a fire smoldering on the topic of child protection in America today. It’s racially charged and driven by parents’ rights groups and Black and Brown people viewing Child Protective Services (CPS) as a biased institution watching their every move just waiting for a misstep allowing them to take their children from them.

America’s Children In 100 Charts identifies and addresses the painful topic of child abuse and trauma. It explores solutions that risk children and their need today.

The book navigates the muddy waters of family preservation, child abuse, and CPS while making a serious argument for child safety and well-being that addresses concerns of people caught up in the institution.

This is no easy task considering the emotional issues and stakes involved. Powerful feelings are at play here. Many readers have experiences with the system or stories told to them by folks that have. Please keep in mind that “for example” is not proof.

While the following pages include “for example” experiences, we have included sources and statistics to support the points being made.
