Nordic Contemplative Evening Prayer: Part of the Maker Dwells in All That’s Made – Nonviolence liturgy,  Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1935 St Clair Avenue, St Paul, 55105   Evening Prayer liturgy has been the usual prayer of people since the days of the early Christian church. This liturgy, contemplative weaving of poetry, prayer, scripture, music Hardanger fiddle, piano and other), song (canters and participant) and silence attunes us to the holiness of time. We participate in daily rhythms, praising God for the sun’s rising and a new day, thanking God, for all the day has brought at day’s end. We gather to celebrate the sacred mysteries of our lives in the context of the mystery of God. Nordic Contemplative Evening Prayer at Pilgrim bends the liturgical components of Evening Prayer and the Nordic roots that run deep in the Twin Cities. Fourth Sunday of the month, September through April. Contact: Pilgrim Lutheran Church, (651) 699-6886 ; http://Pilgrimstpaul.org

The Compassionate Rebel Response Workshop:  Finding the Hidden Wisdom Within– Rebecca Janke, Dayton Avenue Presbyterian Church, 217 Mackubin Street, St Paul, 55102. Every now and then a dilemma stirs and rattles the soul. There is no sure way to act. Compassion seems inadequate to address the complexity and the anger that has risen is too intense to be a trusted ally. What are we to do? Rebecca Janke, M.Ed., peace educator, international columnist, and co-author of The Compassionate Rebel: Energized by Anger and Motivated by Love, a finalist for the prestigious Nautilus Award, will guide you in a unique storytelling process that reveals your embodied wisdom for navigating these perplexing spiritual struggles. This is individualized education at its best, so be prepared to be delighted and surprised by your personal creativity and that of others in the room as you learn how to combine the power of compassion and anger. All you need to bring is paper, pen, and a penchant for storytelling. As you expand your capacity to act, nonviolence and increasing the “good” becomes the norm. Life becomes better for us all. Humanity moves forward. A free will offering supports Rebecca’s Kids Peace Literacy Project which serves parents, educators and community leaders who influence children’s spiritual foundation during their formative years.  Contact: Rebecca Janke at    childrenspeacecompany@gmail.com.

Nonviolence: Christianity’s Greatest Failure and Its Best Hope – People of Faith Peacemakers. African Development Center, 1931 South 5th Street, Mpls  55454 (corner of Riverside and 20th Avenues). Military veteran Al Bostelmann will review military training and the religious support that legitimizes those activities, contrasting that with the Orthodoxy of Jesus’s nonviolent equal love of friends and enemies as practiced by Christianity during its first 300 years. Then we’ll cover how Constantine’s and Theodosius’s actions to make Christianity the official religion of the Empire resulted in the Church embracing “justified violence” – introducing a complete reversal, for the next 1,700 years, of Jesus’s way of dealing with evil – and looking at the consequences. Lastly we’ll make the case that a return to Jesus’s nonviolent love of friends and enemies still represents a force more powerful for bringing about peace. Followed by questions and discussion on the presentation and its implication for current and past events facing our nation and Church.  .  Capacity 40.  Please register: allanbostelmann@msn.com

The Science of Peacebuilding: HeartMath and the Global Coherence Initiative -Pathways to Peace workshop, Dayton Avenue Presbyterian Church, 217 Mackubin Street, St Paul, 55102.  Do you know that our bodies are hard-wired to create and that we create through the connection between our brain and our heart? Do you know that science verifies that over 1,400 biochemical changes are set in motion by emotional signals from the heart to the brain? And, each time the heart beats, a magnetic signal is sent out from the body that interacts with others around us? The HeartMath model is a research-based and best-practice model of reducing stress, promoting wellness, and increasing productivity. The HeartMath model is used by over 5 million people, with 5000 certified practitioners, around the globe. HeartMath are proven effective by emergency or crisis workers (Military, LE, EMT, hospitals, etc.), as well as other professions (teachers in classrooms, Universities, mental health workers, sports teams, etc.) and used in global trauma situations (in refugee camps, war torn areas, etc.) The HeartMath techniques produce “coherence”, which is the state when the heart, mind and emotions are in energetic alignment and cooperation. The Global Coherence Initiative (GCI) is an international effort that seeks to help activate the heart of humanity and promote peace, harmony and a shift in global consciousness. GCI conducts groundbreaking research on the interconnection between humanity and Earth’s magnetic fields, and energetic systems.
In our time together, we’ll explore and experience the HeartMath Model, including: • HeartMath connections to heart/brain coherence • HeartMath technology and techniques • HeartMath as a tool for Peacebuilding
